BOYS' HOCKEY: Wayzata keeps its grip on Edina • WAYZATA 3, EDINA 2: The Class 2A, No. 2 Trojans know how to take the sting out of the No. 7 Hornets. Senior Scott Holm scored his second goal of the day on the power play with 12 minutes, 17 seconds remaining, giving Wayzata a victory over the Hornets on Saturday afternoon at Braemar Arena in Edina. Wayzata took a quick 2-0 lead on Holm's first goal and senior Lucas Whelan's power-play goal. The Hornets tied it before the end of the first period on goals by senior Charlie Taft and junior Steve Fogarty 21 seconds apart. It is the third time Wayzata has beaten Edina this season. The Trojans won 4-2 in November and 1-0 in January.
• ANDOVER 8, CHAMPLIN PARK 2: It should have been senior day for the Huskies. Senior forward Taylor Portner had six goals and one assists in a victory over Champlin Park in the Northwest Suburban. Linemate Cal Decowski, also a senior forward, had six assists.
• BRECK 8, PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 1: The Mustangs had three power-play goals and one shorthanded in beating the Lions in the Tri-Metro. Senior forward Tyson Fulton had a hat trick, including a power-play goal, and one assist for Class 1A, No. 1 Breck. The Mustangs have won 16 of their past 17 games.
• DELANO 5, ORONO 3: The Tigers scored three goals in the final 3 minutes, 24 seconds, rallying to beat the Spartans in the Wright County. Sophomore Drake Hunter scored the tying goal at the 13:36 mark of the third period and senior Jack Emmer scored his second goal of the day a minute later, giving Delano a 4-3 lead.
• ST. FRANCIS 6, TOTINO-GRACE 4: St. Cloud State recruit Joey Benik figured in all six goals (two goals and four assists), leading the Saints past the Eagles in the North Suburban. Benik has 14 goals and 14 assists during the Saints' current five-game winning streak.
GIRLS' HOCKEY Irondale clinches North Suburban title • IRONDALE 2, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 0: The Class 2A, No. 4 Knights won their first outright conference championship, shutting out the Red Knights in the North Suburban. Junior winger Meghan Lorence scored both goals for Irondale, the second coming on the power play in the second period. Sophomore goaltender Gillian McDonald made 26 saves to record the shutout.
• BLAKE 2, VISITATION/ST. PAUL ACADEMY 0: The Bears' two leading scorers, juniors Hillary Crowe and Abbie Lund, struck 45 seconds apart in the second period in the Tri-Metro victory. The duo combined for 147 points -- Crowe had 32 goals and 42 assists and Lund had 40 goals and 33 assists -- during the regular season.
• CHAMPLIN PARK 3, ANDOVER 2: Senior forward Kati Batters scored her second goal of the third period with 34 seconds remaining, giving the Rebels a victory over the Huskies in the Northwest Suburban. Batters scored an unassisted short-handed goal earlier in the third period, giving Champlin Park a 2-1 lead. Andover sophomore forward Olivia Vogel scored with 2 minutes, 38 seconds left, tying it 2-2.
